Gopher Resource in Eagan
Since our founding in Eagan in 1946, Gopher Resource has been a proud member of the local community. For nearly 80 years, Gopher Resource has made significant investments in and around Eagan, including generating more than $60 million annually in local economic impact, creating an estimated 300 green jobs and developing innovative, emerging technologies right here in Minnesota. Our Eagan facility was the first in the industry to limit fugitive lead emissions, making us a leader in industry standards and regulations. Our Eagan employees keep more than 12 million lead batteries from being exposed to our environment and communities every year.
About This Facility
Our 36-acre state-of-the-art Eagan campus has the capacity to recycle 50,000 automotive batteries a day, or 15 million annually. The facility also includes our onsite subsidiary Resource Plastics and The Recycling Zone in Dakota County.
- Resource Plastics is an onsite facility wholly owned by Gopher Resource. Opened in 1993, Resource Plastics recycles polypropylene used in battery casings back into materials that are comparable to plastic.
- Since 1993, Gopher Resource has teamed with the Dakota County government to operate this community recycling and education center on the Eagan campus. It serves over 66,000 residents and businesses annually, most at no charge.
- For over 30 years, The Recycling Zone has provided and continues to provide safe, convenient recycling of select household waste, electronics, and general recyclable items that would otherwise load up landfills.
- The Recycling Zone is Minnesota’s second-largest household hazardous waste and recyclables facility, with one of the lowest-cost-per-vehicle operating ratios.
- Via The Recycling Zone, our Eagan facility collects over 1.2 million pounds of aluminum, plastics, glass, and paper waste; diverts over 1.1 million pounds of electronics from landfills; and facilitates the reuse of over 600,000 pounds of paint, cleaning supplies, and other materials.
- To further our commitment to the environment, our Eagan facility also maintains a Reuse Zone as part of our Recycling Zone. The Reuse Zone provides community members the opportunity to take reusable products for free, helping our community while preventing waste.
